Frequently asked questions

How accurate is the Wordle solver?

The filtering is exact: a word is listed only if it would produce every color pattern you entered, including repeated-letter cases. The ranking of answers is a probability estimate based on how common each word is in everyday English.

What does 'Info' mean in the guess table?

It is the expected information of a guess in bits. Each bit roughly halves the number of words left, so a guess worth 5 bits is expected to cut the list by about 32 times.

Why does the solver sometimes suggest a word that can't be the answer?

Early in a game, a probing word built from untested letters often eliminates far more options than any possible answer would. The table marks these as 'probe' so you can choose between a safe guess and a smart one.

How many guesses does the solver need on average?

Following the top suggestion every turn typically solves a puzzle in about 3.5 guesses, and almost never needs more than five.
